The Map Itself Goal: Simplify the map so that the customer can find us easily. The example below shows some of the design elements and tactics used to do this. Additional Map Examples at the end of this article. The following changes were made: Use Brand Bible: Use colors and fonts from the guide. See Brand Bible Color the route & destination, greyscale/lighten the rest: The map was converted to greyscale and lightened, leaving only the focus booth and path in color. This helps clarify placement. Use brand colors from the Brand Guide as a highlighting color. This matches the Event Template emails nicely. A textured "pencil" brush is also used to evoke an artistic feel. Mark the Entrance and path. We added a stick figure character and marked it as the viewer standing at the entrance, clearly indicating a point of reference to start from. A solid line is used to demonstrate the path. There are many alternative paths they can take, but we've highlighted the most direct, least distracting one. Make it cute. Added art assets around the booth. Highlight vital landmark labels, eliminate extraneous ones. We have blanked out large text labels and highlighted the name of the room using the highlight color. Simplify the map by removing all non-vital decor images. If the con included additional imagery in the map that is NOT part of the map (i.e. cute characters or logos for other vendors), remove it. Clarify any potentially confusing layouts. In this example hall, there is a second space that can confuse attendees. Since we know from attending this show that many attendees comment that "they didn't know there was another room", we have specifically lightened the second room and noted that there was no sushi in it. This is a special case, and in most events, a second vending space is not common Save Editable Maps and Reuse if possible: If we are returning to an event or convention center we have been to previously, check and see if you can simply modify and reuse elements from last year’s map. Graphics for use in Emails/Social Media Save all files to the Team Resources > Conventions > {{Event Name}} folder Anthrocon Map Notes: Anthrocon's map was very very wide and impossible to view without scrolling. Since the table was very close to the door, we cropped the map to fit existing templates and used a fade out to suggest the idea that the room went beyond. Still lots of extra space with cropping, so we added table number info to fill the space. Lvl Up Expo Map Notes: Another oddly proportioned map that was impossible to view without zoom in + scroll.
